Toby Mulligan is a self-taught artist whose style is spontaneous, whereby he simply starts to paint with either hand without any preparatory sketches or planning. He began painting portraits for people in the mid-eighties, and saw his career take on a new direction when 'About Time', a painting of his daughter, became a 2012 finalist for the BP Portrait Award, and was shown in The National Portrait Gallery, London.
