  • Original mixed media, watercolour and gouache, painting, depicting a male, cock pheasant foraging in the undergrowth, this original work is by the exhibited British game bird artist Philip Rickman (1891-1982).

Philip Rickman was born in Richmond in Surrey, and studied art in London, under George Edward Lodge, and in Paris. He was influenced by the technique of the famous Scottish wildlife artist Archibald Thorburn, and became a renowned painter of game birds and wildfowl himself.  In 1920 he held his first exhibition at the Greatorex Gallery in Bond Street, London, which led to him illustrating for ‘The Field’ and many other sporting publications. He later exhibited more widely, and illustrated and published several books, and today his works feature in many important private collections around the World.
