  • Original watercolour painting, depicting a view of a river in a countryside landscape, with a solitary duck on the river, and rolling hills in the distance, by the Yorkshire artist Percy Monkman (1892-1986).
     
    Percy Monkman was born in Bradford and lived at Baildon in West Yorkshire. He studied at the Bradford School of Art and painted predominantly town and country scenes around West Yorkshire using oils, watercolour and gouache.  He served in World War One afterwhich he returned to a career in banking, but continued to paint, and also act at the Bradford Civic Theatre.  He was the chief cashier with the Westminster Bank in Bradford, whereupon retiring he began to paint professionally.  He was a past president of the Bradford Art Club and a life member of the Yorkshire Watercolour Society and Farsley Arts Club, and was one of the first artists to regularly contribute work for the Dalesman magazine.

    - Framed, glazed and ready to hang, in a its original cream-coloured moulded period frame
    - Frame size 68.5cm x 53.5cm (approx. 27 inches x 21 inches)
    - The painting has a small blemish in the sky at the very top, possibly remnants of a small insect under the glass, this could be easily remedied by replacing the mount with one slightly wider
    - The frame has some minor dinks/rubbing commensurate with age, otherwise it is in very good condition 
    - The mount is discoloured and would benefit from being replaced
