- Large original watercolour painting, depicting a view of Wharfedale, in The Yorkshire Dales, from Addingham Moorside in West Yorkshire, by the Yorkshire artist Percy Monkman (1892-1986).Percy Monkman was born in Bradford and lived at Baildon in West Yorkshire. He studied at the Bradford School of Art and painted predominantly town and country scenes around West Yorkshire using oils, watercolour and gouache. He served in World War One afterwhich he returned to a career in banking, but continued to paint, and also act at the Bradford Civic Theatre. He was the chief cashier with the Westminster Bank in Bradford, whereupon retiring he began to paint professionally. He was a past president of the Bradford Art Club and a life member of the Yorkshire Watercolour Society and Farsley Arts Club, and was one of the first artists to regularly contribute work for the Dalesman magazine.- Signed lower right- Framed, glazed and ready to hang, in a moulded gilt frame- Painting size 49.5cm x 32cm (approx. 19 1/2 inches x 12 5/8 inches)- Frame size 79.5cm x 60cm (approx. 31 1/4 inches x 23 5/8 inches)- The painting is in excellent condition- The frame has a loss to the top right corner, which has been touched up and is not obvious when hanging, and some general minor dinks/rubbing commensurate with age, otherwise it is in very good condition- Excellent investment- Original gift- All paintings are carefully packaged to prevent damage during shipping- Please contact us for European and Worldwide shipping prices- If you have any questions about this item, please contact us and we will respond within an hour
