Original oil painting on canvas of an Edwardian street scene, likely to be London, Kent or the south-east of England.  The painting  depicts a busy cobbled street, lined with gaslamps and Victorian architecture and filled with pedestrians, hanson cabs and a horse-drawn tram.  This nostalgic centrepiece painting is by the sought after listed Yorkshire artist Kevin Walsh (b.1950 ).

 

Kevin Walsh was born in Castleford, Yorkshire in 1950, and studied illustration at the Wakefield College of Art.  He initially built his reputation for his paintings of aircraft, but soon became known for a wider variety of subjects, including landscapes, and classic cars which he often includes in his paintings.  He spends much time thoroughly researching and sketching before creating his final composition, and this is reflected in the technical and historical detail in his paintings.  The quality of his work is evident in that it has been reproduced over the past 20 years for greetings cards, jigsaw puzzles, collectors plates and prints etc, and more recent prestigious commissions include the design of Harrods Christmas biscuit tins and cards.  His original paintings are much sought after, and feature in many private collections across the world.
