  • Superb original 1930's watercolour painting, depicting a stable yard, with trees in the foreground and the stables beyond, by the English artist John Hammond Harwood (1904-1980).
     
    John Hammond Harwood grew up in North Yorkshire, and studied at Harrogate School of Art and the Royal College of Art, under William Rothenstein. He was the principal of Gloucester School of Art from 1939 until 1945 and then Sheffield College of Art until 1964. He was a member of the Sheffield Society of Artists and illustrated some of the Puffin Series of books. He exhibited a number of works at the Royal Academy, and also showed regularly at the Sheffield Society of Artists, the London Group and the New English Art Club.

    - Framed, double-mounted, glazed and ready to hang, in a moulded distressed-gilt frame
