  • Atmospheric original mixed media painting, depicting a view of cityscape, with a multi-arched bridge over a river in the foreground, and the city skyline beyond, .  This original work is entitled 'In a Favourable Light', was created in 1984, and is by the award-winning artist, and former president of The 'Bristol Savages*' Art Society, John Frederick Palmer (1939–2021).

John Frederick Palmer studied at the West of England College of Art, and went on to do an apprenticeship in Design & Illustration. He was a very accomplished watercolourist, whose paintings were generally full of light and movement, and he was a member of the 'Royal West of England Academy', as well as twice President of The 'Bristol Savages*' Art Society. He exhibited widely with his works featuring in many private and public collections, and he also published two books and featured articles in national and international magazines.

*The Bristol Savages was an artists group, founded by Bristol artists in 1904, where members would meet each week in various locations to paint a set subject.  In 1919 a leading member of the society, along with some Bristol businessmen, purchased the Red Lodge in Park Row, Bristol, which members renovated and built a hall in its grounds, as its meeting place, which they called the Wigwam. In 2020 the society was renamed 'Bristol 1904 Arts' to recognise and reflect their location, history and purpose.
