Original watercolour painting, depicting a view of Loch Lomond in Scotland, entitled 'Head of Loch Lomond' this work is by the listed Scottish artist John Blair (1849-1934).

 

John Blair was born in Hutton, Berwickshire, Scotland, and studied at the Trustees Academy School of Art. As a student, he won several medals of national standing, working mainly in watercolours, and by 1881 he was a full-time landscape artist. He first exhibited in the Annual Exhibition of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1870, and went on to exhibit regularly their over the following 50 years. He exhibited widely including at The Glasgow Institute of Fine Art, The Walker Art Gallery, The Manchester City Art Gallery and The Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, and he was also a member of the Society of Scottish Artists. His paintings were also reproduced as postcards, book endpapers and illustrations, and feature in collections across the globe.
