  • Original oil painting on board, depicting Sheep in a lush green rolling landscape, this bright and vibrant colourful painting was created in 1990, is entitled 'The Green Hills', and is by the renowned, self-taught Polish artist Jerzy Marek (1925–2014).

Jerzy Marek was born in Grudziądz, Poland, and displayed artistic ability from an early age, but the development of these skills were put on hold at the outbreak of World War II. He served with the British Army towards the end of the War and then settled in the UK in 1948, where he worked as a civil engineer. He painted in his spare time and, upon his retirement in the early 1980s, began to paint full time. His work initially featured sporting themes, then pastoral themes which gave way to close-ups of animals and birds, all painted from memory. His work has been exhibited in galleries worldwide, is referenced in the Rona Guide to the World of Naïve Art and Muller’s World Encyclopedia of Naive Art, and has been reproduced widely as prints and postcards.
