- Large, superb original oil on canvas painting, depicting a black labrador hunting dog, in a countryside landscape, retrieving a pheasant, by the highly collectable and much sought after British artist Henry Wilkinson (1921-2011). Henry Wilkinson is well-known for his engravings, which are widely available, however, this is an extremely rare opportunity to own one of his original oil paintings.Henry Wilkinson studied at the Winchester College of Art and the Royal College of Art in England before embarking on a career as a painter and engraver. He initially learned the skill of engraving at the gunmaker, Hammonds of Winchester, and throughout his life he practiced traditional drypointing and engraving, pulling each edition himself and making his own ink. He taught at the Engraving School at the City and Guilds of London and was a member of the Royal Society of Painters, Etchers and Engravers. He primarily portrayed dogs and country life in his distinctive works of art, working from his studio in rural Kent, England.- Signed lower left
- Framed and ready to hang, in an ornate gilt frame with a white moulded wooden slip- Frame size 79cm x 64cm (approx. 31 1/8 inches x 25 1/4 inches)- The painting has one or two small areas of very minor hairline cracking, only visible on close inspection, please see images above, otherwise it is in excellent condition- The frame is in excellent condition
