- Original oil painting on board, depicting a view of a cottage in Roe Inclosure in The New Forest, Hampshire, created in an impasto style, with the thick application of paint using a pallet knife, by the English artist Harley Crossley (1936-2013)- Signed, and dated (19)73, lower leftHarley Crossley was born in Southampton, but he was brought up in Yorkshire as a result of being evacuated to the county during World War 2. He did however return to Southampton to finish his education, and begin his working life in the docks area, where his love, and painting, of marine subjects originated. As well as painting landscapes, seascapes, water mills, windmills, ships and dock scenes, he was one of Britain's foremost waterway artists, and unusually he used only palette knives for his painting in oils.
