- Original oil painting on canvas, depicting a view of Maldon in Essex, with the River Blackwater in the foreground, Saltcote Maltings beyond and the sailing masts of wherries visible in-between. This original work has been created in an impasto style, with the thick application of paint using a pallet knife, by the English artist Harley Crossley (1936-2013)- Signed lower rightHarley Crossley was born in Southampton, but he was brought up in Yorkshire as a result of being evacuated to the county during World War 2. He did however return to Southampton to finish his education, and begin his working life in the docks area, where his love, and painting, of marine subjects originated. As well as painting landscapes, seascapes, water mills, windmills, ships and dock scenes, he was one of Britain's foremost waterway artists, and unusually he used only palette knives for his painting in oils.
