Large original oil on canvas painting, depicting a beautiful British countryside scene, and a river meandering through a tranquil landscape, with boats on the river, figures on the riverbank and cottages and a church dotted across the rolling backdrop.  This original work is by the English Landscape Artist Gordon Lees (b.1933 )

 

Gordon Lees was born in Birmingham, England, and, having served in the RAF, he initially worked in mining, commerce, and plastics design.  During this time he painted and exhibited in his spare time until, by the mid-1970s the demand for his work was such that he decided to turn to art as a full-time profession.  He is a self-taught artist whose paintings have been exhibited widely, including at the Mall Galleries, London, and many leading galleries throughout the U.K., America and Japan, and his work, depicting British landscapes and towns, has been reproduced on greeting cards.  It is thought that his work was the inspiration for the trademark village scenes of the late prolific American artist Thomas Kinkade.
