- Original gouache painting, depicting a view Greenan Castle, near Ayr, on the South Ayrshire Coast of Scotland, this original work was created in 1986 by the Scottish artist Frank Colclough (b.1941 ).- Signed lower rightFrank Colclough was born in Wick, Caithness and studied in Edinburgh before moving to London and working as a design draughtsman while studying at the Camberwell Art School. He returned to Scotland in 1975 and settled in Alloway, where he became a full-time artist in 1981. The inspiration for his vibrant paintings comes from the Scottish colourist movement, and after initially working in watercolour, he has, in recent years, been painting in acrylics and oils. Best known for his maritime scenes, Scottish landscapes and still lifes, he has exhibited widely including at the prestigious Royal Scottish Academy, Royal Glasgow Institute, and Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolours, and his works feature in many private and public collections.- Signed, and dated (19)86, on the reverse of the painting- Original Artist's label verso- Framed, glazed and ready to hang, in a moulded, gilt-trimmed, dark wooden frame- Painting size 22cm x 14.5cm (approx. 8 5/8 inches x 5 3/4 inches)- Frame size 39.5cm x 32.5cm (approx. 15 1/2 inches x 12 3/4 inches)- The painting is in excellent condition
