He was a landscape artist, working in both oils and watercolour, and was particularly inspired by the Alps in his work, however, an attack of Polio in his late twenties led to him seeking more accessible landscapes to paint in England and mainland Europe. He exhibited widely including at The Royal Academy in London, and also provided illustrations for several travel books.
