  • Original ornithological mixed media painting, depicting a Reed Warbler feeding a Cuckoo chick, by the Yorkshire artist E Anderson (20th Century).  Cuckoos visit the UK in the summer and are famously known for being brood parasites.  Rather than build their own nest, the females lay their eggs in other birds' nests, especially meadow pipits, dunnocks and reed warblers, and then leave the unsuspecting victim to feed and raise their young for them.
