  • Atmospheric original watercolour painting, depicting 'Fishing Vessels on the Thames' by late 18th and early 19th Century artist Charles Gregory (1849-1920).

Charles Gregory was born in London and, having shown an artistic talent from a young age, his parents enrolled him in the Royal Academy schools, where he excelled in watercolour painting.  He lived in Ripley, Godalming and Marlow, before settling in Milford, Surrey, and the subject matter provided by these settings proved immensely popular with the Victorian public.  Prior to his coastal travels his work focused on rural life in the small villages of Southern England.  He was a genre and history painter who was elected to the A.R.W.S. and R.W.S. and who exhibited from 1873, in London, Liverpool and Melbourne.
