This fabulous impressionistic work is by one of England's foremost watercolour artists Cecil Jeffrey Thornton (1911-2001).Cecil Jeffrey Thornton was born in Narborough, Leicestershire, and studied at Wigston Grammar School. On leaving school he joined his uncle's painting and decorating business and studied interior design and decorating at night school, where the Principal realised his talent and arranged for him to attend the Leicester College of Art. In 1957 his wife persuaded him to submit a painting to the Royal Academy, which was accepted. This led to him becoming a professional artist with his work being sold far and wide, and in 1970 he reached the pinnacle of his career winning a Gold Medal at the Paris Salon, the highest accolade for any artist.
