Superb original oil on canvas painting, depicting a portrait of a beautiful Afghan Hound dog, by English artist Carol Gillan (b.1961 ).

 

Carol Gillan was born in Lancashire in the North of England, and studied art on the South Coast in Brighton. She initially worked as an illustrator before deciding to build a career as a full time artist. She paints from her studio in the South of England, and specialises in dramatic and humorous animal portraits, which she closely crops to maximize impact. She works in oil because it adds depth and enables her to portray the texture of the animal, its muscle tone and personality. She has exhibited widely across the UK and Europe and she has undertaken commissions for individuals and corporations. In 2006 she was awarded first prize in the prestigious DeMontfort New Artist competition.
