Barry Claughton (b.1935 )
Original watercolour painting, depicting a view of Sutton Bank, between the villages of Thirsk and Helmsley, in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. This original work is by the Yorkshire artist Barry Claughton (b.1935 ), and is a classic example of his intimate watercolour painting style, with his trademark use of soft colours.
Barry Claughton was born in Leeds, and studied art at St Mark’s and St John’s College in Chelsea. He began exhibiting and selling his paintings in the 1960s while teaching at Roundhay High School, but didn't become a full time artist until 1989. He has a broad interest in art, works in oils, acrylics, water colours or pastels, and paints a variety of subjects from landscapes and portraits to animals and transportation. He has given numerous art demonstrations and talks, and his work is also sold as prints, postcards and greetings cards.
