  • Original exhibited pastel painting, depicting a 'Bridge and Viaduct Over The Tyne', this original work was exhibited in 1991, and is by the Scottish artist Alexander Cree (1929–2014).
     
    Alexander Cree was born in  born in Dunfermline, Fife, and studied at The Edinburgh College of Art under William Gillies, Robin Philipson, William MacTaggart and Leonard Rosoman.  He won an Andrew Grant Postgraduate Scholarship and a Travel Scholarship in the early 1950's, taught in a number of state schools between 1963 and 1987, and was the principal teacher of art at Dunbar Grammar School.  He exhibited widely, with the RSA, SSA, RSW and Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts among others, and his numerous solo shows included The Lyceum Gallery, Edinburgh, The Demarco Gallery, Edinburgh and The Macaulay Gallery, East Lothian.  His works, in pastels, oils and watercolours, feature in numerous collections including those of The Scottish Arts Council, The Nuffield Foundation and British Transport Hotels.
