  • Original watercolour painting, depicting a view of the city of York during the first part of the 20th Century. This detailed original work is entitled 'A Corner of King's Square, York' and is by the the listed British artist Albert Henry Findley (1880-1975).

Albert Henry Findley was born in Leicester, the eldest son of local chairmaker Richard Findley, and although he initially worked in the shoe industry, his real interest was in carpentry, taking after his father, and he made many fine pieces of furniture in his lifetime. In 1907 he began painting scenes of Leicester, followed by various cathedral views including York, Lincoln, Norwich, Peterborough and Durham. Painting was his hobby which he did by gaslight in the living room of his small terraced house, until his retirement in 1945 when he began to paint full time in a large shed in his back garden. He is well known for his paintings featuring local landscapes and architecture, many of which were extremely detailed.
